Date and purpose of establishment:

The collection consists of works of art donated to the Rectorate and library of İzmir Institute of Technology in 2008 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz ŞENGEL, a faculty member of the Faculty of Architecture, passed away in 2009 with the desire for students to see original works of art. The works exhibited in certain regions in the library were received in 2019 under the leadership of the Department of Culture Courses and with the approval of Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf BARAN, aiming to keep Şengel’s memory alive and to establish a permanent exhibition hall with conditions suitable for displaying the works. Thanks to a donor, a room in the department has been transformed into a permanent exhibition hall by creating conditions for exhibiting artworks. The collection, consisting of artworks gifted to Şengel due to her friendships with artists and relations in the art environment, consists of the works of artists such as Ömer ULUÇ, Gülsün KARAMUSTAFA, Janusz KAPUSTA who have made significant contributions to Turkish and World art. The exhibition hall was opened on April 17, 2019, under the name of ‘Deniz Şengel Artwork Collection Exhibition Hall‘.
