Course Content:

The content of the course consists of the general characteristics of the Ottoman alphabet, grammatical features of Ottoman Turkish, reading and understanding words of Arabic and Persian origin in Ottoman Turkish, and reading, understanding, and translating Ottoman Turkish texts.

Week 3: Pronunciation of Letters
Week 4: Orthography of Turkish Vowels
Week 5: Characteristics of Turkish Consonants
Week 6: Orthography of Vowels in Arabic and Persian Words
Week 7: Letters without Phonetic Equivalents in Turkish
Week 8: Midterm Exam
Week 9: Orthography of Turkish Suffixes, Plural Suffix, and Derivational Suffixes
Week 10: Turkish Pronouns and Numbers
Week 11: Predicative, Case, and Possessive Suffixes, and the Closed “e”
Week 12: Optative and Conditional Moods, Turkish Particles, Necessitative Mood, Copula, and Compound Verb Conjugations
Week 13: Recognition of Arabic and Persian Words, Persian Constructions
Week 14: Recognition of Arabic and Persian Words, Arabic Constructions
