GCC 101 – Career Planning and Development
Course Contents:
CV preparation and cover letter and letter of intent (statement of purpose) writing are instructed. Students get aware of competency-based interviews. Contemporary career planning applications such as LinkedIn are mentioned. Tools and platforms to prepare a CV and Assessment Track Systems are mentioned in this stage. 21st-century competencies are mostly composed of soft skills; therefore, not only soft skills but also demanded competencies in career development are introduced. The ways used to gain these skills and to enhance them are guided. Proper communication skills, such as business communication and effective body usage, are necessary for being a professional. Students would realize that life extension leads to life-long learning as well as lateral careers for all of us. Therefore, life-long learning ability is enhanced frequently in the course. IZTECH facilities’ leading contribution to students’ career development is enhanced through the semester in the course content.
Weekly Topics:
Week 1: Meeting and introducing the aim of the course and career center. Building your career: Career concept, definitions. Assessing personal strengths, weaknesses. Developing interpersonal skills.
Week 2: Assessing personal strengths and weaknesses. Developing soft skills.
Week 3: Writing CV and Letter of Intent.
Week 4: Business Communication; Verbal and Written Communication. Communication skills. Effective presentation making.
Week 5: Human Resource Manager / Recruitment Agent / Head Hunters.
Week 6: Introduction of the IZTECH Career Development Application and Research Center, Alumni Office Coordinatorship, Scholarship Office Coordinatorship. Meeting with the team.
Week 7: “IYTE Graduates talks” in collaboration with IYTE Alumni Office Coordinatorship & IYTE Alumni Association.
Week 8: Careers in business, private sector.
Week 9: Presentation of Teknopark İZMİR A.Ş. support to entrepreneur students and graduates. Entrepreneur experience share.
Week 10: Time management (Crisis/Stress management). Introducing concepts of agile and resilience.
Week 11: Careers in academia or public corporations and institutions.
Week 12: Introduction of IZTECH Coordinatorships leading being volunteers at Sustainability Green Campus Coordinator and Civic Engagement Projects Coordinator.
Week 13: IYTE Lecturer sharing experience and introducing an industry.
Week 14: Careers in NGOs.
